The Former Northern Methodist Church in the Loop

In 1861 a Northern Regiment was posted at the Elk Garden Methodist Church, South. They were known as the Kanawha Rangers. That year during a church service several of the Kanawha Rangers were in a “drunken frolic”, and a confrontation developed during the church service and one of the Rangers was shot through both legs, and later died, and following his request was buried at Smithfield.  This likely is the same individual mentioned earlier in the discussion of Smithfield.
