           After all of this, it may seem trite to observe that what was generally considered to have been the best small mouth bass river in the world would be condemned to a status of it being illegal to eat fish caught in it.  But the Commonwealth of Virginia has taken this catastrophe, and turned it into an asset.  The North Fork of the Holston is now designated as a trophy bass river, where everything caught in it must be released, except for one 20” or greater mountable bass.  Besides the continued existence of the country itself, this may be the most lasting legacy of the Saltville story.
