THE SETTLEMENT OF SALTILLE

 

            Charles Campbell as a child had emigrated from Ulster to Beverly Manor with his father, Patrick.  There he was neighbors with the Pattons, Burdens, Prestons, and Buchanans.  Indeed, he married Margaret, the daughter of Col. John Buchanan, the son-in-law of James Patton.  He is usually referred to as Major Charles Campbell.  Charles inherited Patrick’s quarter interest in Beverly Manor.  Charles was a surveyor for the Patton Expedition of 1748.
